These fillings have been said to last from 7-10 years, which is just slightly less than silver fillings. White fillings are made from a composite dental resin and as stated before, are more aesthetically pleasing because they match the color of your teeth. In more recent years, white fillings are the standard among most dental offices. Because they are more natural, more patients prefer them, and white is often safer than its silver counterpart. 

About 50% of silver fillings contain mercury, which can cause some health problems in some patients. Composite materials do not contain mercury, which eliminates this risk in patients with white fillings. 

What Happens When That Time Is Up?

While dental fillings last for a long time, they unfortunately don’t last forever. The filling protects your tooth from further decay, but once it falls out, that protection is lost. It is best to have regular dental checkups so that you can ask your dentist when your fillings need to be replaced.
